Wolfburn is an independent single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Thurso, Caithness, and the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland. The original Wolfburn opened here in 1821 and became the largest distillery in Caithness before falling silent. We brought it back in 2013, a short walk from the old site, and we still draw our water from the same burn.
Everything happens in Thurso. We double-distil, fill our own casks, mature them in dunnage warehouses by the sea and bottle on site, with no chill filtration and no added colour. In the 2026 edition of Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible, all five of our whiskies earned five stars, and our Lightly Peated Cask Strength scored 95/100. Read the full story.
